It is tricky guessing which teams would come out on top in certain leagues whilst it is relatively easy to predict which ones would prevail in others.
In England, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are in a 3-way battle to come out on top but at this point in time United seem to be in pole position, not just because they are leading but also because Arsenal do not seem to have too many match winners at the moment, concede too many stupid goals that impede their progress and Chelsea make too many bad decisions under Avram Grant.
A lot would depend on United’s matches against Liverpool and Arsenal as I do not think they would lose at Chelsea. Arsenal have fixtures coming up that might hamper them as they face Chelsea on Sunday, Liverpool, 3 times in days both in champions’ league and then they go to United in the space of 10 days or so. That is asking a lot for a young side that does not have strength in depth. Something would have to give as they surely cannot win the league and go far in champions’ league at the same time.
Chelsea, mathematically still have every chance to win the league as they still have to entertain United and Arsenal but under Grant, I don’t see them winning both games as he is not cute enough tactically to achieve what Jose Mourinho would have done. Therefore I am without much confidence tipping United for the title.
In Italy, Inter Milan seem to be in course for a 3rd straight title as their realistic rivals Roma seem to be faltering. Add to the fact that Roma are still in champions’ league and Inter are not further tips the balance in their favour.
It would be good for the integrity of the Italian league if Roma were to win it for many reasons mainly due to the fact that Inter went out of 2nd round of champions’ league and also they seem to get too many penalties in the league but I just cannot see Roma doing it.
In Spain, despite Bernd Schuster’s efforts to throw away the league, Real Madrid should be crowned champions at the end of the season as Barcelona do not seem that keen to win back their title.
In Scotland Glasgow Rangers should see of their main rivals Glasgow Celtic for the title.
In Holland, PSV should retain their title but it would be a close run thing with Ajax still in the hunt.
In France the title is Lyon’s to lose and I cannot see them not winning it for the 7th time in a row.
In Germany Bayern Munich should be crowned champions as their main rivals are not consistent enough to mount a serious challenge.
In Portugal Porto have all but mathematically won the league because they are so far in front it is ridiculous.
