  1. Christina Unkel, an articulate speaker indeed. Not sure if I missed it. The point of consistency seems to always be forgotten. Why is one action in 1 game a red and the same action in the same league and sometimes even by the same ref in an other day not a red? The EPL's officiating will never improved without consistency of calls from all the refs and VAR staff. That falls squarely on the shoulders of the PGMOB.

  2. They should limit VAR to coach challenges like in the NFL… Basically the only time the ref will look at the screen is when a manager appeals for it… Limit the number of appeals to one first half and one second half… Then when the ref goes these the REF can use his mic to tell everyone why he judges the situation the way he does…

  3. So if he broke his ankle and was stretchered off, is it then a red? It's all subjective based on the observers opinion. That means any talk about safety and taking care of the game is a facade. Simply lip service. More physical sports such as rugby have a zero tolerance policy for any sort of play that could lead to injury, even if there was no injury caused. Just because the rules are evolving and taking more account for the safety of a player is not an excuse to oppose these decisions because now it's not what they were used to when playing 5, 10, 20 years ago. Football has a long way to go before it actually respects the rules, refereeing and player safety on the pitch. Pundits and commentators alike have a responsibility to be better and stop this kind of wishy washy opinion pieces that play to a fan's emotional irrational reactions.

  4. An easy way to judge wether a card should be yellow or red is by asking if that exact same should be allowed to keep happening throughout the game. Giving a yellow card means the tackle is still acceptable to an extent as the tackler is allowed to continue playing. This is an obvious potential ankle breaker and if it happens throughout the game 10 to 15 times and 2 or 3 ankles get broken but only given yellow cards is that right?
