Arsenal vs Bayern Munich is the Champions League's BEST QF! – Tactical Analysis, Arteta vs Tuchel..

In today’s video I provide an early tactical breakdown/analysis of Arsenal’s tie against Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The draw took place last friday, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City drawing Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in what looks like a staggering right-hand side to the draw. On the left, Xavi’s Barcelona take on Sergio Enrique’s PSG and Borussia Dortmund are poised against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

In the video I cover:

– F.C. Bayern Munchen’s vulnerabilities in the build-up phase with the likes of Leon Goretzka, defending transitions with a midfield of Pavlovic and Joshua Kimmich, and how Arsenal’s physicality and duel winners such as Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Thomas Partey will be invaluable in the tie.

– Arsenal’s and Mikel Arteta’s ambitions to control the Germans, utilizing their ever growing fluid positional build-up with Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Jorginho, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior, Takehiro Tomiyasu and more to take control of the tie in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium. They will be combating against a Bayern press which can often be too passive.

– Bayern Munich’s own threats, in particular in transition with Mathys Tel and Harry Kane replicating the Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane dynamics at Tottenham Hotspur. This is the main way for Bayern to hurt Arsenal, who are one of the best defensive teams in the world, both in their man-to-man press and zonal block.

– Alphonso Davies and Sacha Boey could have a big part to play up against Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, in a matchup that has key battles all over the pitch! Jamal Musiala is another world-class player to look out for, among a pitch that will be littered by them.

This channel covers the entire Premier League and Champions League, including Ten Hag and Manchester United, Ange Postecoglou and Spurs, Aston Villa and Unai Emery, Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino, Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp and much more!

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal progressed after beating Porto on penalties in the round of 16, with thanks to David Raya and his penalty saving heroics. Bayern overcame Lazio 3-0 after both sides found themselves 1-0 down after the first away legs.

  1. Thanks for the good video. The only thing is havettz didn't play as raumdeuter for arsenal, not really, and not recently, he plays as false 9 that drops and interchanges, and that I think should be where he plays going forward ahd compete for that spot. Arteta tried him in midfield, and had to play trossard abd etc to make it work but at the end of the day It was clear from charity shield in beginning of season that false 9 is more suitable for his skillset. Still think that arteta should try esr in left 8, you can then even shift jesus to left wing (like Alexis). Arsenal ain't winning the pl but cl is a good possibility, whoever wins the bayern tie has a very good chance to win cl, hopefully arteta can do what xabi alonso did to bayern. Habetz as second striker or raumdeuter can also technically work but I don't think it makes the team balanced, so unless we chasing games, I don't think it should be base case

  2. This Arsenal team is light years ahead of the Arsenal teams that surrendered to Bayern Munich in years past. Genuinely can’t see Bayern beating us. Dare I say, I think we’ll win the tie by 3-5 goals over the two legs.

  3. I actually think this could be a really good draw for us. Bayern are not as water tight as one would come to expect and we have experience dealing with Kane from before. Not to mention that our CBs can match the physical demands that the match up will require.

  4. Ultimately, it's can Arsenal handle the occasion. Just like Man City, we were prone to being too respectful to tip level sides.

But this year against Barcelona, Man City, and Liverpool, we've proven that our insecurities have hopefully been laid to rest.

If we come out and execute anywhere near our Premiership form, we should secure a 2 win result…..COYG ❤😂

  5. Great to see you back.
I feel our midfield will be tested against Musliala and Harry Kane dropping deep will give issues to Saliba and Gabriel.
In contrast I feel our Arsenal team actually reminds me of the great Bayern Munich team from back in the day to a certain extent.

  6. ok seeing the team you propose – I am afraid Partey might not be fully at his best by the first leg and possible the second and we might have to play Jorghino which could hurst us against a team that can get past our press but I dont know anything about Bayern

  7. My thoughts as a german on the bayern lineup:
Boey: wont start, tuchel does not trust him for a cl QF
Kimmich: will probably play rb, because a kimmich+goretzka have shown for years that they are not working well together
Upa: from all CB the most talented one, but his brain isnt made for big games, struggles with pressure
Dier: seems to be tuchels preferred cb, ecause best passing skills from all CBs
De ligt: paired with dier, used to be the paiting for the last games. But they are quite slow
Kim: i guess will be playing with dier, because he is faster than de ligt. However his passing and ball control is that of a amateur player. No joke, its horrendous
Guerreiro:better technical than davies, but too slow for the arsenal attack
Davies: when fit, will prob be starting
Pavlovic: has to play, bayern improved massively with him, great vision and passing
Goretzka: most overrated, but because of lack of depth in the squad will be playing. Is physical though
    Sane:will start
    Musiala:will start
Müller: will start, even though you can see he is 35. Is crucial for directing the pressing and has a lot of experience
    Kane: will start
All these are most definetly safe for a starting role. Season has sjown that this is his starting lineupn in attack
Tel: tuchel will not start him, hasnt done it in less meaningful games, sees him as a sub. My opinion: one of the best prospects i have seen in years at bayern, will have a great career there if not injured
Gnabry: comes from an injury, but after kanr and musiale the best finisher in the team and has a history of good games agaknst arsenal. Will be a sub
All in all: bayern defense even after spendings millions is not well rounded and will be having massive problems. The favors are for arsenal
