Sadio Mane was intended to be a transformational superstar at Bayern Munich. An indication of the Bundesliga club’s “gravitational pull”. After all, he was one of the guaranteed starters in Jurgen Klopp’s Champions League & Premier League-winning Liverpool sides.
But 13 months on he is no longer in Germany. Why? What happened during Mane’s time in Munich? Seb Stafford-Bloor explains. Craig Silcock illustrates.

Burned out , played 7-8 seasons elite level , he's only human after all
its so disgustig how he tries to play the grace quart now ….smgh…
Bayern not knowing what they are doing. Mane is a proven winner before coming to them. Bayern only a proven winner in a single horse race. Pathetic.
He got old, chased a money move and and an easy league 🎉😂
Because of Bayern's greed to be on top, they've unnecessarily ruined players like Mane,Gravenberch,Sabitzer all who were stars for their previous club to be rotational players.
Mane fell victim to money.
He should have stayed at Liverpool both for his sake and Liverpool's.
Sadio to Saudi is the best move for.him.. He can perform umrah and hajj and maybe live there..
Many players play their absolute best under Klopp. It's no accident. Mane is similar to Coutinho. Both lack a bit of confidence, that a top manager needs to instill in them.
Fully deserved.
He went from a close-knit club that had worked hard together to win to a club in trouble at the board level, to a squad which is used to being handed the title, and to a manager out of his depth that didn't understand why he worked at Liverpool.
Feel like I also need to point out that everyone at Bayern was mediocre at best last year.
Its becoming a theme that every time a big player leaves Liverpool for another big club their career plummets ⤵️.
Jealousy, I think sané was jealous. Manè is a good player. Bayern was too impatient.
I can say it. He is a Muslim and Bayern are a Bier city he cant play with them
Or just shows how average he was, made to look good with the Liverpool team
his Senegal fans ruined his career for keep making false about Salah and he decided to join Bayern That’s IMO
They never give mane much playing time
Germany is good at growing young talents but not able to do the same for others. It's good that Bellingham and Gvardiol left.
Mane and courtinho are 2 reds that should’ve never left
Liverpool legend… He was treated terribly. Cold and boring… That's Bayern
what do you mean " 'snap' at a local reporter", he was decent, calm and classy in his criticism towards the reporter
Who was good on that team?
It's simple: he though he was better than he actually was. Don't need to watch this video
He went from Happyo Mane to Sadio Mane
As a Senegalese, I strongly disagree with those "he's lost his pace" comments 😂. If you watch his game against Brazil in 2023, you'll see that MANE's role at Bayern and Liverpool during his last season was different from previous seasons. He didn't need to press or sprint as much due to how teams defended deep in the PL and Bundesliga. His impact after leaving Liverpool proves this. I remember a Liverpool Vs Barcelona preseason match during his first season with Liverpool, where they beat Barcelona with ease even before Salah joined. Bayern didn't have faith in him, and Liverpool didn't offer him a better salary, leading to his departure. There were internal problems at Bayern after the coach and board changes. Despite the move to Saudi, MANE remains a world-class player in my heart, and one poor season won't change that. Don't forget he missed the WC and had a surgery with all this fiasco going on.
Crazy what happens when someone comes from a farmer's league…
I was waiting for this video sadio has always been my favourite player but he looks so different lately even in his last season he don't take on anybody lately
I found it extremely frustrating when we signed Mane. He didn't fit at Bayern except as a replacement of one of our already established wingers. It reeked to much of a publicity stunt.
Even so, I rooted for him to succeed every minute he played. A sad state of affairs in the end. On to greener pastures, Mane. It wasn't you, it was us.
This is call karma dirty player he deserves it 🙏🙏🙏
Bayern never came close to replacing Lewandowski and have been putting up makeshift systems to compensate ever since. The money spent on Mane should have gone towards Kane.
Bayern is broken. When a player like Mane can't bloom in ur system, it's a disgrace.
Who’s Lero Sana? 😂
What happened to all the comment threads?
It would be interesting to see how the drive to make big money transfers and the motivations of agents to generate large cuts from themselves, create situations where plays like Mane ultimately really suffer on the pitch. There's likely in many of these cases, interest from clubs who might suit the player better on the pitch without being a high profile a move, or offering the same financial reward.
Just not as good as some thought, no way was he ever at the level of Salah.
These videos are always a pleasure to watch
Moral of the story: don't sign players from Liverpool
